The Mainframe Gateway for OpenVMS can serve as an alternative to any of HP’s SNA Gateway Products. This product is a software-only solution that executes on an IBM mainframe.

You can use this product when the following four requirements are met:

• Your VAX or Alpha systems uses any of the SNA Access Routine products
• Your VAX or Alpha system has a TCP/IP stack installed
• Your IBM mainframe supports TCP/IP (most now do)
• TCP/IP communications support is available in your organization

If you use this product, you will no longer need:

• SDLC communications lines dedicated to OpenVMS systems
• X.25 communications links dedicated to OpenVMS systems
• Separate SNA and IP networks
• HP hardware gateways (see list)

No changes are needed in OpenVMS or IBM mainframe application software.  Only configuration information on the OpenVMS systems and the IBM mainframe will be needed.
